The limited production 2008 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Toreador (a 250-case blend of 92% Zinfandel and 8% Petite Sirah with a whopping 16.9% alcohol) saw more new French than American oak. A pedal-to-the-metal, full-throttle Zin, this opaque ruby/purple-colored offering displays notes of blackberries, cassis, licorice, incense and Asian spices in its massive, full-bodied, bigger-than-life personality. This huge wine is brilliantly balanced and capable of lasting a decade or more, although these wines are generally best drunk in their boisterous youth.
