Very floral and pretty red with blackberries and cherries. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a solid core of fruit. Tight right now. Needs a few years of bottle age. This is a winery to watch in the future. Best after 2005. 1,000 cases made.--JS

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino demonstrates what he can do when the weather is on his side. A fresh garnet in tonality, intensely spicy and sweet on the nose, it is solid but round on the palate, structured but velvety and polished, warm and enveloping on the lengthy, elegant close. Drink: 2005-2016.
Marco Mantengoli operates in the same part of Montalcino as Giulio Salvioni and Diego Molinari and his wines show the same combination of force and finesse as these major personalities of the zone.
