Crisp and clean, with ripe berry, cherry, currant, cedary oak and spicy nuances built on a lean frame and finishing with firm tannins. Give it a year or two and hope it fills out but, like many '93s, it's a bit hollow at midpalate. Best from 1999 through 2003. 800 cases made. JL

Restrained, deep ruby-colored this wine offers up an earthy, loamy, berry/cassis-scented nose with oak in the background. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with astringent tannin, adequate acidity, and good depth. I suspect it will always display a certain austerity and severity to its tannin, but it is generally well-made, and capable of lasting for another 10-12 years.
