The Drouhin 2006 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Marquis de Laguiche is in fact from the Morgeot premier cru. Grapefruit, pineapple, lanolin, and vanilla in the nose lead to a rich, expansive, fruit-filled palate with toasty nutty accents, all impressively persistent, along with vanilla and spice from the barrel. I suspect it will be best over the coming 3-5 years.
The Drouhins started early but picked with a level of meticulousness and at a moderate tempo that most growers did not feel they could afford this vintage. Lees contact was passive and the wines were bottled relatively early. The results are universally rich and accessible, the best wines being those that manage to retain clarity and a measure of vivacity as well as to stand up to their components of new wood. Drouhin has tight viticultural control over the numerous parcels that inform their village level wines, even though most of them are not owned.
Allen Meadow's Burghound Notes: 90 Points
An ever-so-slightly riper and marginally more elegant nose that is really quite similar to that of the straight Chassagne villages is followed by big, rich and tautly muscled medium-bodied flavors brimming with dry extract and that possess excellent intensity on the citrusy finish. While this is a villages level wine in name only, it delivers very solid quality.
